My dear Mr Brownell

May I congratulate you upon the [enclosed] outline and express my sincere regret that I cannot contribute to the book.

I seem to have entered into a dreary waste so far as writing is concerned, and have so far failed to pull off two articles which I faithfully promised should be done.

My heart is gradually "compensating" and I can only hope in time that I may be able to write again but at the present moment I am too discouraged to add another article to my already bad conscience.

May I send you my lecture outline in a day or two. Hoping you will forgive my rash statement in accepting that I cannot carry out, I am faithfully yours Jane Addams
