My dear Mr Taylor
I like the chapter very much and think you have traced the influences of the settlement into other movements very cunningly. I have only one or two suggestions to make: reference to the Pilgrims on page (1) ↑(no one)↓. I think the Settlement was rather a revolt against Puritan conceptions, than a continuation of them -- a substitute of "works" for dogma [etc.] However that may be my Quaker reaction!
Then on the top page (11) eleven -- I really think that it would be better to omit that reference to my [own] record. It is so difficult to state it in a few words!
I am very anxious to see the next mss. of which you wrote and I want to congratulate [page 2] you upon having gotten into the swing of writing which you evidently have and which in writing a book is absolutely essential.
I think that "Social Frontiers" would be a fine title. It implies just a little [pressuring] on the word "settlement" which is rather good, and really describes the regions in which you worked.
