WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM
12, Rue du Vieux-Collège, Geneva, Switzerland
August 4, 1927.
Dear Executive Member,
Re Joint Standing Committee.
We have had the following information from the Joint Standing Committee of Women's Organizations. They are planning to hold a meeting at Geneva on Wednesday, September 7th at 2.30, 17 Boulevard Helvétique. Our official representatives are Miss Courtney and Miss Marshall. This Committee has sent us the following piece of information:
The Joint Standing Committee have decided to form a [Subcommittee] of experts on economics and have asked the different women's organizations to nominate people for this Committee. The purpose of this Committee is to consider nominations which may be made of women to serve on the Economic Committee of the League of Nations when there is an opening. It is felt that it is important for the international organizations to have such a [Subcommittee] in the event of either individual or united action being desirable. The Executive Committee of the International Council of Women has suggested the names of the following women as people qualified to serve on such a Committee: Dr. Lüders of Germany, Dr. van Dorp of Holland, Madame d'Arcis of Switzerland and Mrs. Wintringham of Great Britain.
We also wish to bring the following matters to your attention:
Re English Section.
The English Section as the result of a letter from the Joint Standing Committee of Women's Organizations have given the following two names as the women they would like to nominate to the Institution of Private Law: Miss Irene Cooper Willis and Miss Sybil Campbell. They asked that these two names be presented to the W.I.L. Board. [page 2]
Re [Czechoslovakian] Section.
The [Czechoslovakian] Section have sent us a request that at the Executive meeting in September, we consider the problems of Fascism and Bolshevism and their effects. They are of the opinion that now is the time to take a stand on these questions because they feel that trouble is imminent any time from the conflict of these two forces.
They also ask that we send a protest to Moscow in regard to the 20 political prisoners who have recently been executed in Russia.
We should much appreciate it if you would let us have your opinion on all these matters as soon as possible.
Sincerely yours,
