Jane Addams of Chicago, speaking here, urged that the channel of communication between the older generation and the young people be kept open, "for if that is closed, then all hope of understanding on either side is lost."
Miss Addams said she was not particularly disturbed by bobbed hair. "What we would get worked up over," she said, "is the great uniformity of opinion in young people today."
Answering questions after the lecture, Miss Addams said she believed the war had something to do with present conditions, and declared that "except in bootlegging, prohibition, in my opinion, is not directly responsible for the crime wave."
