Jan. 21.
Dear Myra
I am so shameful in sending my thanks for the delicious nuts that an apology seems hopeless. It has been a distracted time and I have run and jumped ever since Christmas -- never quite finishing the jobs of any day. My correspondence was the thing always shoved off. [page 2]
Now this is Jane Linn's wedding day and we are expecting to shortly put on our best frocks and hasten out to the church. Your Aunt Jane has been ill for the past ten or twelve days, but she is much better and apparently quite equal to go to the wedding.
I do thank the Linns, great and small, very warmly for the Christmas greeting and the nuts [page 3] which we ate with so much enjoyment. Please forgive me for my horrid manners.
I wish we were going to have a glimpse of you all again this spring but there seems no hope of that.
Much love to every member of the family and my best, though belated, wishes for the New Year.
Always affectionately yours Mary Smith
