Dear Miss Addams --

In sailing away from Bar Harbor I had the feeling of leaving Paradise behind me. But as a matter of fact I was able to bring away the good effects of what is a perfect place and perfect household. I am grateful for everything even the weather that kept us indoors and made it more possible to talk.

Of course, I shall never feel we are really talked out unless we can get interned some place in the world or meet up on the crystal coast of the next. Anyway I feel as if I had a glimpse of said crystal coast and know what it will be like if there is any. If you think that Irishmen exaggerate let me assure you that we mean what we say and every one of us thinks himself a Besserwisser. [page 2]

I am sending you a copy of the Heart of Emerson's Journals and while it is nothing for steady reading there are a few rather good spots in it, at least it seemed so to me.

My affections and memories are very strong for your household from yourself and Miss Smith to Mary Constance.

Yours as ever,

John Elliott.
