WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM
Dear Miss Scripps,
Miss Addams has [illegible] and I never forget the gracious generosity with which you helped us out of a hole ↑in our difficulties↓ [illegible] after our Washington Congress ↑of 1924↓ in the matter of our publication expenses.
This I hope you will let me lay before you a present undertaking of the WILPF more constructive and more interesting. We are sending a delegation consisting of Mrs. Grover Clark ↑The League as an international body [is]↓ asking Mrs. Grover Clark of ↑an American woman [illegible] living for seventeen years in↓ Peking, Miss Edith Pye of London and Madame Camille Drevet of Paris to represent our ideas us undertake a mission to ↑the women↓ China Chinese or [page 2] on its behalf. Mrs. Clark wife the [illegible] and liberal editor of the Peking Leader, as you doubtless know, is already on the spot. We hope that Miss We hope that Miss Pye and Madame Drevet will join her ↑early↓ in the early fall autumn.

We hope very much that you will feel it a good investment to give a thousand dollars toward this undertaking which we believe has seeds of real usefulness in it. Our [illegible] Even at this distance we hear [page 3] echoes of all you are doing in California, in La Jolla and at Pomona, and a member of the W.I.L. wrote Miss Addams the other day much impressed and interested by the "Better America" subscription which you had placed in the La Jolla San Die ↑a public↓ library at San Diego.
