Chicago. January 8, 1927.

Mr. Charles P. Schwartz, Treasurer,
Citizens Committee,
79 W. Monroe St.,
Chicago.

Dear Mr. Schwartz:

I greatly regret that I shall be out of town in connection with my work on January 20th and that it will therefore be impossible for me to be at the Civic Dinner in honor of Miss Addams. I greatly regret this. It is a splendid idea to recognize in this way Miss Addams' great services to Chicago, the country and the world. I hope there will be a very large attendance.

Very sincerely yours,

Eugene T. Lies [signed]
Special Representative.
