My dear Miss Addams:

Mrs. Simons and I were greatly disappointed that a long standing engagement made it impossible for us to join personally in the splendidly deserved tribute to you at the banquet.

We do want to take the opportunity at this time to say to you how much we have learned to appreciate you and your work during our many years of acquaintance, even though circumstances have made it impossible to see as much of you in recent years as we would have wished.
