December 30, 1926.

Mr. Henry P. Chandler,
308 North Michigan Avenue,
Chicago, Illinois.

Dear Mr. Chandler:

I have your letter of December 29 in regard to the dinner to Miss Jane Addams on January [20]. On that evening the Chicago Bar Association gives a dinner to Sir James Aikins, President of the Canadian Bar Association. Because of that engagement it will be impossible for me to attend the dinner in Miss Addams' honor. If, under the circumstances, you still wish to use my name as a sponsor, I shall be delighted to do that or anything else to show my respect for Miss Addams.

Yours very truly,

W. C. Boyden [signed]
