My dear Dr. Maddox,

I am sending a second box of books with approximately the same number. This box will bring the number up to, including the ones I had sent, about seven hundred and fifty. I have had the promise of more books from friends next summer. With Miss Balch's this will probably make the number one thousand. I think it should be at least that, if Mrs. [McCulloch] is going to count $1000 on the ↑endowment fund.↓

Perhaps a dozen or two of these books are French text books, but as the user has only recently returned from Paris I hope they will be more usable than such material often is. It is very kind of you to have arranged for the book gift ↑plate.↓

Thanking you for your kind letter and with all good wishes for the Season, I am

Faithfully yours,

Jane Addams [signed]

Dr. Wm. Maddox,
Rockford College,
Rockford, Illinois.
