Mrs. Milton Jay,
1936 Orrington Ave.,
Evanston, Ill.

Dear Madam:

You have doubtless rejoiced that we have in our Chicago Woman's Club membership the most renowned citizen of Chicago, Miss Jane Addams.

It is customary to build great memorials to people after they have died and when they can no longer know how much we appreciate them. We ought to prepare a memorial for Miss Addams now while she lives among us and it should be of a character which would give her more pleasure than could any statue or great memorial meeting.

She is a graduate of our old school, Rockford College, at Rockford, Illinois. However many L.L.D's she may have received from universities and colleges scattered all over the world, her first degree, her B.A. degree came from Rockford to which she has ever been a loyal friend and sometimes a Trustee.

The Chicago Rockford College Alumnae Association began a movement to endow a "Jane Addams Social Service Chair" at her alma mater. Over one-half of the $60,000 needed has already been paid leaving about $29,000 still to be paid to complete the fund.

Will you not make such personal contribution as you can, whether large or small, for this purpose so that we may credit the friends of Miss Addams in the Chicago Woman's Club with nearly one-half of the gifts to this memorial in her honor?

Kindly make checks payable to Rockford College and send in enclosed envelope.

Earnestly hoping for your cordial cooperation, we remain,

Yours sincerely,

Catharine Waugh McCulloch [signed]
