November 3, 1926
My dear Miss Addams:
For a number of years you have generously and efficiently cooperated with our Student Friendship Fund. During the six years that our Committee has carried the responsibility there has been contributed by the students of America $677,209.22, and an additional $646,441.20 from friends and foundations, making a total contribution from America of $1,323,650.42. In this work we have been associated with the students of some thirty-two nations. The total contribution from all countries is $2,140,355.68.
Even more than the dollars involved has been the service of healing the wounds of fear and hatred. The growing sense of comradeship and fellowship among the students all around the world is abundantly evident. In my recent visits to the Orient and Australaisa I found the students in all of those nations more conscious than I had ever found them of their obligations to others and their opportunities for service. International Student Service has become a living reality on every continent.
There has been given much thought by the students of all these nations as to how we can conserve the results attained. An international committee was appointed a year ago to report at the biennial meeting of the World's Student Christian Federation at Nyborg, Denmark, in August, 1926. As a result of this discussion it has been agreed that the World's Student Christian Federation will carry forward this work as an organic part of its service program, and the student Christian movements in America have agreed to make this a part of their world outreach for international understanding and goodwill. They take this opportunity of expressing through me their deep appreciation for the splendid help which you have given. As these responsibilities fall more heavily upon their young shoulders they will need our counsel and help, even though the special committee is not continued.
I want to express my personal thanks to you. It has meant very much indeed to know that I had your approval and invaluable cooperation in this work.
Very sincerely yours,
J R Mott [signed]
