Dear Miss Addams --
I must [apologize] for troubling you with a letter, but as you told me, you might be going from [Glengarriff] to Galway, and in case no one has mentioned it to you, I venture to write and urge you -- if you have a day to spare -- to go and see the Shannon Electric Scheme near Limerick on your way. I am sure you would be greatly interested not only in the scheme, but in the welfare side also.
If you would write to the Resident Engineer Strand Barracks Limerick [page 2] he will make all the necessary arrangements for you to see everything -- and if you do go, do ask to see Commandant Stapleton, who is the Camp Commandant at Ardnacrusha, where the main work is. He looks after the welfare side. A friend of mine, Miss Haire-Forster who has to do with the Employment Exchanges is mentioning to the principle engineer that you might be possibly going so that we know they will be delighted to see you. This is one of our new ventures and much depends on it.
You would have to spend at least one night in Limerick, and as none of the [page 3] hotels in Limerick are up to much, I would suggest your staying at either
Dunraven Arms. [Adare]. about [6?] miles from Limerick
or Shannon Hotel Castleconnell. about 5 miles from Limerick
both beautiful places and both comfortable hotels.
If you already know all this or cannot do it, please destroy this letter and forgive me for [interfering]. I could not get an opportunity of speaking to you yesterday or Wednesday, as of course you were too engaged.
With apologies, I am yours sincerely
Ethel Macnaghten.
16. July.
