Dear Miss Addams,

I do not know how to thank you for all what you have done for the Peace mission and for me personally.

Thanks to your generosity (this 50 dollars) I shall be able to take much better care of dr Friberg, whom I hope to meet in Copenhagen. Mrs. Kakis, Lettland, is also coming. She is so happy. She is so nice and such a clever teacher. I enjoyed her lessons very much when I visited her school in Valencia.

As soon as Miss Doty had got your telegram, she offered me full expenses for six weeks if I would come to Geneva. I was very grateful, but I must answer in the negative. It was late, and I had very much to prepare for our Scandinavian summer school (for teachers) in Norway. I enclose a prospect. There were also other reasons which I am sure you will understand. When I prepared the outline I never thought of its being fully used this summer -- it needs a great deal of preparation -- but [page 2] I hoped that it would be useful as a suggestion for the work this year, and that it [perhaps] could be fully worked out another year.

Now there was already a plan for this summer school, and I understood how difficult it had been for the Committee to change their arrangements.

But as I am hoping to get a grant (partly from our Government) to go ↑to↓ the Peace Congress in Geneva, August 28th to Sept. 3d, I have arranged with Miss Doty for a talk on [Peace mission], followed by discussion, August 25th.

You are quite right we need professional teachers for part of the work at our summer schools. I have a young friend, Miss Stendahl, an excellent teacher of Geography, and I think that we together would be able to lead a course at our next summer school. Miss ↑S.↓ speaks very well English, French and German. And if we could have Miss Baber!!

I hope you will find that I have tried to do my best.

I have had a very kind letter from Miss Balch asking me to go to Geneva. I am very much obliged for your kind opinion, and wish I could do something to deserve it.

Affectionately yours,
Matilda Widegren.
