Dear Miss Addams:
I think entirely too much of you to say anything about you behind your back that I wouldn't say directly to you -- except possibly the praise that in your modesty you might deem extravagant.
I therefore enclose a copy of letter which I have just written to Dr. John Faville in which I refer to you as an example of the highest order that I gently criticize. Besides, this letter may convey to you the result of my experiences, and my final conclusions for whatever my life is worth, not to be tempted to compromise the sacred character of Outlawry. It may never come in this poor old world but, if it does come, it should be the genuine brand, for a corrupted Outlawry would be a mere annex to the war system and a demonstration, by its own futility, of the need of war.
In any event, you will sympathize with the proposition that I cannot escape the deliberate results of my own convictions.
I trust this letter will not reach you for some time because I believe you are on a much-needed vacation.
Sincerely yours,
encls
