Dear Professor Dodd:
I returned from Mexico only last evening and had not yet worked out my engagements when I so rashly accepted your kind invitation for dinner on next Wednesday. I find that I am speaking that evening at the Lincoln [Centre] as you see by the enclosed program. I must therefore decline with many apologies for my blunder.
May I express my sincere regret to Mr. Holt as well as to Mrs. Dodd and yourself.
Faithfully yours,
Jane Addams. [signed]
