Dear Miss Addams,

Enclosed is my letter to Miss Balch so that you may know exactly how things stand here. Since I last wrote you I have learned a little more about things in reference to the S.S. and I know that it is impossible for me to undertake to manage it. I can only regret that my name was used as the head. As I have [page 2] said to Miss Balch I am happy to help but I cannot assume the responsibility for it.
