My dear Mr. Lockhart:
At the request of Mr. Josephus Daniels I was very happy to become a member of the General Committee to establish the memorial to Mr. Bryan in Washington, but I cannot become a member of the memorial for the establishment of the University of Dayton. I am afraid I am not in sympathy with the connotations of such an undertaking and shall have to ask that you do not use my name in any wise in connection with it.
Faithfully yours,
Mr. Malcolm Lockhart,
Dayton, Tenn.
