My dearest Lady:

I am sending the enclosed material with a letter to the ninety-five names submitted to me by the various Settlements at the request of Mr. Kennedy. But I am perfectly sure we cannot get any real money without personal solicitation. Won't you follow up some of the New York people with a telephone message?

Even without encouragement from you I am going to send you twenty-five sets of material to use with other people. I am very anxious to put through the matter if only to show we have not lost all of our early ambition in the line of intellectuality.

It is a mean thing to add to your financial burden just now but after all, one success is apt to be followed by another.

With all sorts of congratulations upon the successful issue of your drive, I am,

always devotedly yours,

Jane Addams. [signed]

Miss Lillian D. Wald,
New York.
