Paul Underwood Kellogg to Jane Addams, September 9, 1925

September 9, 1925.

Dear Miss Addams:

I deferred answering your note, hoping that some chance might make it seem plausible for me to come back from our camp in lower Quebec by way of Maine. But as detours go, that was too exaggerated a one. And I am ever so glad to learn from Miss Wald that you are to be here within the next few days.

I spent last night with Miss Wald at Saugatuck. She seems quite her old self, but lacks reserves of strength. My hope is that she may be persuaded to stay there until frost comes and not get back into the drive of New York. She is looking forward eagerly to your visit, and I trust you may help in the persuading.

You will be interested to know that it looks very likely that we may bring Judge Amidon's daughter (Mrs. Ratliff) on to the staff. Unfortunately, she has a case of pneumonia.

Thank you again for your kind invitation to Hull's Cove,

Sincerely,

Miss Jane Addams,
Hull's Cove, Me.
