My dear Dr. Jacobs:

I am so very sorry not to see you during your stay in the U.S.A. I cannot tell you what pleasure it would give us if you could come to Chicago before you leave.

I did bring a germ with me out of Mexico but I am very much better now although my throat is still being treated every other day and I have to go rather cautiously in various ways.

Your many friends at Hull-House unite with me in very sincere regret that we are not to have the pleasure of seeing you this year, but none of them can feel worse than I do, for you know, dear Dr. Jacobs, of my warm and unchanging admiration.

Devotedly yours,
Jane Addams [signed]
Dr. [Aletta] Jacobs,
Washington, D.C.
