My dear Miss Addams:
I wish to thank you for your kind letter which was followed today by a presentation copy of Peace and Bread. I am delighted to possess this record of a movement which attempted to rout the forces of ignorance and hate with a tiny company of women gathered under the banner of human kindliness and faithful unto death to their standard.
I take this welcome occasion to renew to you my expression of an ancient and now habitual respect. I am,
Yours sincerely,
Ferdinand Schevill [signed]
