My dear Mr. Brett:--
A letter from Miss Tarbell this morning said that you had had an interview with Mr. Phillips in which it seemed to you better that my new book should not be brought out in the Spring. I understood Mr. Marsh to say that the Spring was the best time for publishing it so I find myself a little confused in the matter. Will you kindly write to me about it as it will necessarily make some difference in my plans for the winter. I should of course be glad to have more time to spend on the book, although I have felt very strongly that it would be an advantage to bring it out in the twentieth year of Hull House as it is of necessity somewhat journalistic in parts.
Hoping to hear from you at your earliest convenience, I am,
Jane Addams. [signed]
