Dear Lady

The longer letter from Mr Schiff is very fine and in a sense his position is incontrovertible -- if it were only the expression of opinion from one private individual to another, it would of course be all right.

I hardly feel that I know Mr Schiff well enough to express an opinion even through you but may I [page 2] tell you how fine I think you have been about it.

I too have been trying to get out of the Birmingham engagement but Mr Lovejoy has been quite exigent and he has been so good about our own Child Labor troubles in Illinois just now, that I feel as if I must be good too.

Bless you, Devotedly yours

Jane Addams
