Dearest J. A.

The heat of New York City seems to render even the best of secretaries feeble-minded in July. The enclosed pitiful fragments are the best I can send you out of my fifty complete copies of Mr. Cline's articles in the World. There was first long delay in getting them and now you will, I fear, be able to make only trifling use of these remnants, because the second installment dated July 8th is wholly missing and the series is much like a child's smile with the front teeth out.

I am hoping for good news when Emily Balch comes back, about your health.
