March fifth.
Dear Miss Addams
After a two month's wait in the hope of feeling like a human being when I wrote you, I am at last, at long, long last doing it almost flat in bed, and with the mentality of a jelly fish!
You and Miss Smith were such pleasant memories, (you are still in spite of the implication)! and we have so often expressed our regret that it was such an angel's visit you made us. In fact I always feel guilty [page 2] with my charming Hull House etching, I must have willed your thoughts to me. I had a memorable afternoon there in 1916, my only regret being that I missed seeing you there. Failing that, seeing you here was second best, for you were so spiritually congenial to the picture, you couldn't possibly not show it.
My daughter and her husband sailed from San Francisco yesterday I suspect, on The "Lincoln," and I imagine that Mrs. Coonley-Ward will come along without much delay.
My men folk join me in most cordial regards and in bidding you return and settle down among the dragons. Meanwhile know that I shall walk in the Hull House door with you daily and with great pleasure. With very many thanks, Yours sincerely, Pearl Chase
