Dear Miss Addams:
The American Legion Weekly, a publication of 800,000 circulation, owned and conducted by the American Legion, believes that an international conference should be called to impose a limitation upon military aircraft armaments and thus end the competition between nations for supremacy in the air which we believe to be useless and wasteful and to constitute a threat to the peace of the world. The reasons which influence our [judgment] are set forth in part in two editorials appearing in our issues of August 10th and 17th. Proofs of these are enclosed for your reading.
This magazine desires a full expression of public opinion on this proposal. To that end we are asking, among others, each of the "twelve most famous American women" to express their views. A post card ballot is enclosed for your convenience. It will be greatly appreciated by us if you will fill it out and put it in the mail at once. In addition we would greatly appreciate a letter from you discussing at greater length your reasons for the opinion you hold.
