My dear Miss Addams:
I have received from your New York publisher a book called "The Spirit of Youth and the City Streets" [and] the reading of which I shall spend my first spare evening, and with much pleasure and profit, I doubt not.
In the days of my boyhood at Freeport I knew your father as well as any growing lads could know an esteemed elder. I have more than one pleasant hour in your Cedarville home to look back [page 2] to. These are some of the reasons why I rejoice in the record of your good work. May God's blessing attend you.
With regard I am yours
David Ja Burrell
Miss Jane Addams.
