FRIENDS’ RELIEF MISSION

WIEN. I. SINGERSTRASSE 16.

Vienna, September 1st. 1922.

Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
[Halsted St.],
CHICAGO.

Dear Miss Addams,

We have been gradually [realizing] during the summer that it will be impossible to reduce the work here as much as we had hoped to do, and that every effort will have to be made to raise funds to carry on relief next winter.

I enclose a copy of a letter I have just written to Dr. Hill; as I know you will excuse my saving typing by using this instead of writing it again. We are getting out some more leaflets about the conditions here and the need for help which I will send you as soon as they are ready.

I know fairly well that many people who have helped in the past will find it impossible to continue longer but I believe that every one will like to know what the position is, and you are in touch with such a wide circle that I am venturing to trouble you with this description of the difficulties before us.

I hope very much that you are keeping well, and that both you and Miss Smith have been able to get a good holiday somewhere this summer. I heard a [rumor] you might be coming to Europe and hoped to have the pleasure of seeing you but I gather you have not been over.

With very warm remembrances to Miss Smith and yourself,

Yours affectionately,

Hilda Clark [signed]
HILDA CLARK.
