Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
Chicago, Ill.
My dear Miss Addams: --
I meant to thank you long before this for your very interesting book, “Bread and Peace.” As soon as I read it I passed it on to Mrs. Anderson and as it was not lying before me I quite forgot to acknowledge its receipt. It is a wonderfully interesting book and I am delighted that you wrote it. It will do a lot of good. I looked for some consideration of what our attitude toward the war should have been from your point of view after so many aggravating things had happened and when it seemed that we were under moral pressure not so much to do the good thing as to choose the lesser of two evils. This, however, did not quite come within the range of your book.
Thanking you again, I am
Yours very sincerely,
C. P. Anderson [signed]
