My dear dear Jane,

Your book came to me just before Miss Eastman left for the north and I let her take it to read and I have it back from her now. I haven't had a chance to read very much but I am again reminded of those days of indignation and sorrow when you were so misjudged, misunderstood, when some of dreadful evils of war were doing their best to [work your ruin]. I've always been influenced by you, but ↑even↓ if you had been an d advocate of wars, I would have been a pacifist. But if all to a few, it didn't matter [page 2] what I thought, so I had [no] insults as [success] to [endure].

I was so sorry not to see you when you were in Florida. I trust you had a good rest and have been able to ↑keep↓ something of what you gained even till now.

I've been sewing, made 15 sheets, 13 of them for the Bethune School in Daytona for [negro] girls. A new brick dormitory is to be ready for their use this fall.

I hope to be in [Michillinda] early in June. We are having cool weather. There have been a number of days in the past two weeks when a fire would have added to our comfort. Thank you for remembering me Jane dear, it means a good deal to me!

Yours devotedly,
Sarah F. Ainsworth
