Dear Miss Addams,
It has been decided that the 22nd International Peace Congress is to be held this year in London, from 25th-29th July; and it is being organized by this Council in cooperation with its constituent bodies.
The [Program], which is settled by the Council of the International Union of Peace organizations at Berne, is given in its preliminary form in the enclosed Monthly Circular. You will see that the 4 main subjects for consideration are --
- The Economic Restoration of Europe.
- The League of Nations.
- The Control of Foreign Affairs Through Parliaments.
- Actualités (or urgent current questions.)
The Public Meeting on the evening of Thursday, 27, July, is to deal with Disarmament.
For each of the 4 Sessions a Chairman (or Resident) will be appointed, in addition to the Chairman (or Reporter) ↑of each↓ of the Commissions. The Congress Committee desires very much to have your help, and begs you to [honor] and assist the Congress by acting as the President of the Second Session -- "The Control of Foreign Affairs Through Parliaments." Mr. Charles Trevelyan will be the Reporter of the Commission dealing with this subject & will move the Resolution agreed on by the Commission. [page 2] Our nearly-appointed General Secretary -- Mr. Ben Spoor, M.P. -- is away at present, but he would heartily endorse this invitation which we all hope you will be able to accept.
Can you suggest the names of any [organizations] or industries ↑in America,↓ other than those in our International Peace [Yearbook] for 1921, to whom invitations to attend the Congress should be sent?
