NEW YORK

Dear Miss Addams

Thanks for check for New Republic, your package of articles go to you today.

What shall I do about Mrs. Richardson? Would she be better than Mrs Cumberson as chairman of the Oriental Relations Committee? Shall I work toward that change? I have written her today saying nothing in particular but letting her know that we need her and all the [advice] she can give. Will you please write Clara [Landsberg's] address on the enclosed postal and thank you in advance.

The Manchester women left this morning and if crowding seven days into one ↑means success↓ their visit in New York was a success. We certainly did something every second. I know they both left America with real regret but your kindness in Chicago seemed to be the strongest impression.

As to the food scheme that you sent me. I have called [up] Mr. Hoovers office and am told that over there the $10.00 food draft is always spoken of as the "dollar packet." Ten not one dollar is meant. The idea is perfectly feasible: if fifty people would give ten dollars each fifty persons attending Summer school would each receive ten dollars worth of raw food which could be cooked in the Salzburg kitchens. I'll take the matter up but it is hard to get money for our own sections work.

Tell me if you are disappointed that some of us do not want the annual meeting now; I want to do what you want. Speak frankly and tell why you think now is a good time and I will bring it up at the meeting Jan. 6th. I wish you could be at that meeting. Couldn't you?

Affectionately
