RE: ESTATE OF MARTHA E. FRENCH, DECEASED.

Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
800 So. Halsted St.,
Chicago, Ill.

My dear Miss Addams:

The time is approaching for the settlement and distribution of the above Estate, which I hope to accomplish in December or January.

I am in receipt of a letter from C.D.M. Greer, Internal Revenue Agent at Jacksonville, Florida, stating that he has for investigation the Estate of Martha E. French and asking certain questions on which he states that he must have information before he makes his final report.

In determining the value to the Estate for taxation, it is essential that he know that the devisees, charitable and educational institutions will accept the bequest made to them in the Will, and in that case, such portion of the Estate is free from Federal taxation.

Accordingly, he asked me to obtain and send to him from each such institution, a statement that it will accept the bequest. Will you kindly have such a statement prepared by the proper officer and send to me at your early convenience.

I am enclosing herewith a copy of the Will for your full information.

Yours very truly,

Charles Hull Ewing [signed]

Executor.
