Biographical Text

James Bronson Reynolds assisted Charles P. Neill in Roosevelt's investigation into the conditions of meat packing plants in 1906. Although Roosevelt was skeptical of the descriptions in Sinclair's The Jungle; Reynolds and Neill were disgusted by the conditions, though neither had much experience in the meat packing industry. Their report prompted Roosevelt to sign the Meat Inspection Act of 1906. He was later President of the American Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology for three years.

Reynolds married Florence Blanchard Dike in 1898. Reynolds died in 1924.
