My dear Mrs. Karsten: --
Mrs Mead says she has sent to Miss Addams the letter about Mr. Angell so I need not explain. I wrote distinctly to him ↑in the first place↓ that the meeting was to be held in a Friends' Meeting-house in Philadelphia. The heading on my paper caused the trouble. I had just sent to him the following telegram: News heard from Boston uncertainty your speaking Philadelphia December 6. Not mass meeting, not advertised, every effort to exclude reporters. Invited company of Society of Friends and Woman's Peace Party only. Please confirm original promise. Wire Swarthmore. -- When I hear from him positively I shall let you know. Meanwhile in case he declines to come: what shall we do? The situation is complicated. The use of the meeting-house was granted for those two speakers, Mr Angell & Dr Lynch, and if we have to ask someone else the whole thing will have to be gone over again. Moreover, I am very much afraid to stir it up at all. Mrs Post says that Miss Addams mentioned Dr Rowe & Mr Hull so I will ask the former first, I think. If he declines perhaps we shall have to depend upon Mr Hull simply to keep the peace among our Friends' committees. The reasons I could not begin to [page 2] explain; suffice to say that they are very complicated. I am terribly disappointed about the whole thing, but am trying to keep my faith that perhaps Mr Angell will come after all. If you have any advice to give me, please wire. I can not fathom Mrs Mead's suggestion to ask Dr Lynch to find some one for us as our ↑Friends'↓ committees would not like that. --
I shall gladly [engage] double room for you and Miss Addams at Hotel Adelphia although we are sorry not to have you both in our homes. Please tell Miss Addams we are counting on her here for Sunday at Swarthmore -- to come on Saturday if it suits her to do so -- You will let me know when you and Miss Addams are to arrive in Philadelphia will you not? I should like to meet you, or at least arrange to see you very soon after your arrival.
I thought Mrs Post was to get out a preliminary program so I have been sending information to her but now she writes that we are not to have them and I am wondering how the information is to be given. In case you are sending it out from your office I will jot it down [page 3] below that you may be sure to have what you need.
Faithfully yours,
Hannah Clothier Hull.

P.S. Please do not call the Thursday evening meeting a "Mass" or "public" meeting in the notices, -- just "a meeting"!
In [rereading] my letter I fear I have limited you to the choice of Dr Rowe & Mr Hull -- I do not mean that this is necessary & would like ↑to↓ await further suggestion from you. What about [page 4] Mr George Nasmyth of Boston? We could of course get several who would speak just from the religious point of view but I did not think this wise. --
I am sorry so many of my letters have to be in long hand, but I have to do so much writing in the evening when a stenographer is not available.
