My dear Miss Addams:

I am enclosing you a copy of a letter that has just been sent to Mr Ford by a friend of mine, Miss Theodora Pollok, after consultation and advisement with a few strong peace advocates of our part of the world -- among them Dr. C. S. Dutton, of the First Unitarian Church of San Francisco. We are anxious to try the billboard plan out here at once and will bear the local expense, but the actual getting out of the posters should be done by some centralized agency, -- for the sake of efficiency and economy. We turned to Mr. Ford to do this because he has publicly announced his willingness to go into a publicity campaign for peace, and if the idea has value, it should be put into use with the least possible delay.

Cartoons, trenchant and carrying a message that bites have been coming out in the Masses and a few other papers. They could be quickly enlarged to poster form 7 by 9 feet or in some instances 7 by 14 feet and sent to the local organizations to be put on billboards or [other] available space where they would carry their message to the passing throng.

If this plan appeals to you, can you endorse it to Mr. Ford without delay as time is such a valuable asset in the movement.

Your California friends have all been most sorry to hear of your illness but we hope for your speedy return to good-health.

very sincerely yours,

Charlotte Anita Whitney [signed]
