October 17,

Miss Jane Addams,
College Settlement,
Chicago.

My dear Madam:

A few days since I received a letter from Mr. Ben Tillett of England, duly elected delegate from the British Trade Union Congress to the Scranton Convention of the American Federation of Labor.  He will be in this country about the 1st of December, in all likelihood attending the convention, and remaining with us until its close at Scranton.  The convention will probably close about December 14th.  Mr. Tillett requested me to write you in regard to his coming; that he would be pleased to deliver an address in Chicago, under the auspices of your Settlement.  I have written to him, requesting further information, and expect an answer in about ten days.  As soon as I shall get any further and more definite information, I shall write you.  In the meantime, I shall be pleased to hear from you in regard to this.

With kind regards, I am,

Very truly yours,

President A.F. of L.
