Hotel La Salle
Chicago December 22 1915
My dear Miss Addams: -- On behalf of the clothing workers of Chicago I wish to thank you for the interest you showed in the struggle which has just been brought to a close. I know that your heart always is on the side of right and justice. We had most of the right and the justice on our side, but unfortunately for us our opponents had the police on their side, and that support was rather effective. However, we made some substantial gains and laid a good foundation for constructive work in the future.
I was deeply grieved to learn of your illness and sincerely hope for your speedy and complete recovery. I could not leave the city without sending you a word of appreciation for the work you did on our behalf. The clothing workers of Chicago instinctively turn to Hull House in their troubles and they always have found sympathy and encouragement.
With a fervent wish for your speedy recovery, I am
Sincerely yours,
Sidney Hillman [signed]
