Biographical Text

Charlotte Silsbee was the daughter of millionaire architect Joseph Lyman Silsbee and Anna Baldwin Sedgwick Silsbee. Her first marriage ended in divorce on the grounds of mental cruelty. She later she remarried and moved to Wyoming, triggering a violation of Wyoming divorce laws which forbade remarriage before the divorce was a year old. Walsh worked as a Red Cross nurse in France during World War I and on her return lived in Sheridan, Wyoming. Silsbee died in 1951. Silsbee married Mary Rozet Smith's brother, Francis Drexel Smith in 1900. They had one son, Lyman Silsbee Smith. After divorcing Smith in 1912 and retaining custody of her child, Silsbee married Robert H. Walsh in 1914.
