My dear Miss Addams

I am very grateful today for the autographed copy of your book. I've read all that has appeared in Am. magazine & if I can keep it away from Ruth ↑till I've finished it↓, I'll beat her out in reading the book. But it'll be a struggle to do this.--

It's the thought of leaving the activities you describe & of ceasing even for a time to share with you & the other workers, the tasks that are still before us in this city that makes me hesitate at times as to the wisdom of the acceptance of the new duties, if the [trades] definitely comes. But it will be, I hope, only a temporary [cessation].

Sincerely yours
Julian W. Mack
