Biographical Text

Henry Simmons was a Unitarian minister who led the First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis. There he delivered sermons on evolution, science, and ethics. Simmons was a peace activist who opposed the United States' invasion of the Philippines. He helped convince the state of Minnesota to withdraw its troops from the war. Simmons died in 1905 after a long battle with cancer.

Simmons married Flora Simmons in 1868. They had three children: Henry, Phillip, and Echo.
