Miss Jane [Addams] of Hull House, who by many is believed to be the greatest and most remarkable woman in the United States, if not in the world, was the principal speaker.
Miss Addams addressed her remarks chiefly to the women, who comprised about half of the crowd who gathered to hear her. She presented strongly the reasons for the necessity of granting the franchise to women, and urged her hearers to become active in the campaign for equal suffrage.
She said that a few of her reasons were that women should have the opportunity of voting for the sake of regulating child labor, women's labor, and because the conduct of city and town affairs are of vital interest to her especially through the lives of her children.
