LLOYD W. HOWE, M.D.

78 WEST CHICAGO STREET, COLDWATER, MICH.

Miss Jane Addams,

Chicago, Ill.

My dear Miss Addams: -- The [one] attempting to get the equal suffrage amendment to [our] Mich. Constitution. The country surrounding Coldwater, Branch County, is composed to a large extent of conservative farmers. They have good homes and have had all their lives. They don't as a rule appreciate the conditions in an Industrial state or town, and the particular necessity, in such cases of woman's suffrage, that shall make [page 2] possible, and probably, good legislation for the protection of the women and children who work.

They all know of you and your work, however, and we believed a talk by you would do more to awaken them than any other one thing.

We have a suffrage organization, and are attempting to push the campaign through good press work.

Could you talk to us in Coldwater? Morning noon or night. Fix the date and the time to suit yourself, and we can assure you of a good audience.

Is that asking entirely too much of a very [page 3] busy woman? If it is possible for you to [illegible] us the time, will you specify the time as soon as may be convenient and I'll start immediately to get notices into the county and local papers.

Hoping we may have the great pleasure of hearing you. I [remain]

Yours truly

Mrs. L. W. Howe

Member Suffrage [Press?] Committee
