Biographical Text

Jeremiah Jenks was an economist who specialized in government. He was trained at the University of Michigan, and received a Ph.D. from the University of Halle. Jenks taught at Knox College, Indiana University and Cornell University. In 1912 he became a professor at New York University where he was an expert on governmental science. Jenks was invited to join a number of government groups, including the U. S. Commission on International Exchange, the U. S. Immigration Commission, the National Civic Federation, and a committee that drafted an early version of the 1914 Clayton Antitrust Act. Jenks also advised the governments of Mexico, Nicaragua, Germany and China on financial policy.

Jenks married Georgia Bixler in 1884. The couple had three children, Benjamin, Ernest, and Margaret (Brown). Jenks died in 1929.
