Urging young women to appreciate their newly-inherited freedom and to take advantage of their opportunity to live full lives for their own good and for the welfare of other women throughout the world, Miss Jane Addams, internationally known social worker, founder of Hull House, and champion of women's rights, addressed the Girls' league and women of the Pasadena high school faculty, yesterday at assembly hour.
Although expecting to remain in the west for a short visit only, Miss Addams took time to inspire students here with the same vision which has guided her in work now recognized throughout the world. She was introduced yesterday by Miss Nellie Greene Clarke, dean of girls, as "the first lady of the land in point of service."
"Woman of other countries are clinging to us to be lifted to a higher plane," said Miss Addams. "We must not refuse them and we must help them. If we do not take advantage of our opportunity other countries will pass us in this great work. The women of Burma and India might even make us 'sit up and take notice.'"
