Biographical Text

Elizabeth C. Peale Ryder was an American school teacher, civic leader and peace activist. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1920 and taught at Franklin and Marshall Academy Junior School from 1931 to 1943 and at Lancaster County Day School from 1943 to 1965. She was the head of the Lancaster branch of the Women's International League of Peace and Freedom, and was a worker with the Young Women's Christian Association.

She married school supervisor Paul B. Ryder in 1922. The couple had a son, Bruce. She was widowed in 1965 and died in 1984.
