Dear Mrs. Ryder:
I have never been a Communist either in conviction nor of course have I ever been a member of the Communist Party. The W.I.L. as you know is composed of women from many different countries -- we have sections in twenty-six different countries who hold various political beliefs but are united in the conviction that peaceful methods must be employed in securing social reform. Because the Communists at present believe, as I understand it, that force must be employed in the class struggle the W.I.L. member would be automatically deterred from being received in the Communist Party. I very much regret the confusion of mind which has resulted in unwarranted [blank] statements.
