Thos. S. Ainge, Esq.
Lansing, Mich.

My dear Sir:

Your valued favor of 25th inst. received. We shall expect you to stand for the examination for Chief Sanitary Officer of Chicago. I would suggest that <you> come to Chicago several days in advance of the date set (January 12th) for the examination for the purpose of looking over the ground, etc.

The questions for this examination have <not> been made up by the Civil Service Commissioners as yet. Plumbing; design, construction and regulations will be the principal subject. Ventilation and water pollution with special emphasis upon the general subject of tenement sanitation will be emphasized.

It is my understanding that you will file with the Civil Service Commissioners any credentials you may have showing special fitness, etc. This can be done on your arrival in Chicago.

Very respectfully yours,
THE CITY HOMES ASSOCIATION
by Raymond Robins [signed]
Special Committee,
Miss Jane Addams,
Mrs. Emmons Blaine.

↑I shall be glad to have you come direct to this settlement on your arrival.
